In this guide, we'll learn how to plan and file a flight using the Charts screen in 8Flight. We'll cover how to select or add an aircraft, create or choose a performance profile, and build a route by searching for airports and waypoints. We'll also look at how to review suggested routes, adjust altitudes and departure times, and file your flight plan.

Let's get started

Step #1: Select the aircraft at the top left.
Step #2: If you need to add a new aircraft, click the plus button in the top right corner.
Step #3: Fill in the required fields. Then tap Performance Profiles.
Step #4: Click Add Custom. (POH-based prebuilt profiles are coming in a few weeks.)
Step #5: When you're done, select the aircraft from the list.

Step #6: Select a profile to use, or tap "Edit" to modify it. Tap "Add Custom" to build a new one.
Step #7: Select the Route / Search box to begin entering a full route.
Step #8: You'll get suggested results as you type each new fix. So if you don't know the identifier, you can even type an airport or city name for the "next" fix and then select the one you want from the search results.
Step #9: In the Flight Plan view, we can tap any of the "+" boxes to begin typing another fix or route before or after any existing route element.
Step #10: For instance we can tap the "+" cell between KBZN and KLAS and immediately begin typing to insert "DBS" between them if we want. Continue typing to add subsequent routes or fixes there too.
Step #11: You can also drag elements to reorder the flight plan
Step #12: To find suggested routes, tap the "Routes" button.
Step #13: We can find recent IFR routes, as well as airway routes and others. Tap one to select it.
Step #14: We can also manually find and select Departures, Arrivals, and Approach procedures with the "Procedures" button.
Step #15: For instance, select "Departure" to view all Departure procedures available at the origin airport.
Step #16: And you could select a Departure to load it if desired.
Step #17: Select the current altitude to compare winds, time, and fuel at different altitudes.

Step #18: Select the desired altitude to update the flight plan to that altitude.
Step #19: Click the time field to adjust the departure date and time.
Step #20: Tap the date to select a new date, or tap the time to select a new date.
Step #21: Once you're ready to complete final planning steps and file, tap the 'Save Flight' button.
Step #22: Review Flight details and make final selections like Flight Rules (and soon weight & balance and runway performance options).
Step #23: Click the File button to move to the Flight Plan filing form.
Step #24: Set any remaining fields required to actually file the flight plan, like fuel and souls aboard and pilot information.
Step #25: Scroll to the bottom of the form and click the File button to file.
Step #26: Back on the Flight overview page though, we can tap Navlog to access a navigation log. Or tap Briefing to generate, view, and save a standard weather briefing.
Step #27: In the bottom toolbar, you can see the filing status of the Flight, Cancel or Amend a filed flight plan, or Activate and Close a filed VFR flight plan.
