Does 8Flight support ADS-B?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

8Flight is compatible with any open GDL90 ADS-B receiver, like the Stratus 3 or 4, Stratux, iLevel BOM, any non-Garmin avionics, and many other devices. (Unfortunately Stratus 1/2, ForeFlight Sentry, and Garmin devices take open public data and make it proprietary.)

Flight plan sending and receiving will also be supported with Dynon and Avidyne avionics next month. (If you'd like it to work with your Garmin avionics, please let Garmin know that.)

ADS-B traffic is displayed automatically when received. (You can also toggle the Internet Traffic layer for an even more complete view of traffic.)

ADS-B weather is integrated automatically throughout the app when it is the best available information. For instance, METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, AIRMETs, and SIGMETs are automatically updated from ADS-B when available, but the latest information received via the Internet is also available. If radar or forecast data received via ADS-B is more recent than the Internet based product, it will be displayed instead. If the Internet-based product becomes available again and is more current than the ADS-B data, the Internet-based product will replace the ADS-B product.

In short, you should never have to think about the source of the data displayed because it will always represent the best available data (and in the case of graphical products be blatantly obvious when it's ADS-B vs Internet).

We certainly recommend an inflight Internet connection like Starlink for the best and safest flying possible. For $5/mo you can access truly realtime data that is of infinitely better quality than anything received by ADS-B or SiriusXM. 8Flight + Starlink is currently the pinnacle of aviation safety and planning capability.
